am i posting this right after making a tiny blog post about the same topic. yes. and thats okay

i need to get a hobby to pass the time and im tired of recommendations like "journal" "draw" "write" play instrument" and other stuff ive already heard hundreds of times. all of those things are actually kind of irritating especially once its all that you can do so if anyone has niche hobbies that maybe i havent heard of already i would LOVEEEE to hear them. you can even make one up. its ok to get creative with it

If u have forests around or like to go outside, I like to collect bones! I recommend u bring gloves and a bag to put them in and somehow clean them, but theyre good for decor or sometimes diy !!

I personally like to learn all the bones/muscles in the body in my free time. I started learning originally because I was trying to learn anatomy for drawing, but then I just started getting interested in bones and muscles, so now I quiz myself in my free time. It's fun!!

"Hasta la vista, baby."

i usually get crafty in my freetime. i often make bracelets or posters and decorate my room if i can !!! its more like a once in a while hobby, but it can be fun if u rlly have a knack for it

i think the most "obscure" rec i can give is collecting pop tabs, i dont even drink a lot of canned drinks but i love collecting them off the ground on walks, then you wash them and store them and when you have enough you can make things like chainmail out of them !!!!

EEPTY WARRIOR NO.1 !!!!!!!! Murrdoc Niccaalis

Ok this may not be interesting but I actually collect pencils. Just purely pencils. I like to get different designs, sizes, types, etc. I don't even use them I just had tubes of pencils like idk why. I just simply love pencils (been doing this since I was 7)

I saw on tiktok that people are making stamps out of clay or playdo, and then stamping different textures in a book. It's hard to explain but a web search could give you a video of what I'm trying to explain.

Also I'm probably going to do this for the next couple of weeks in the summer. But do like color photography. Take 12 photos that are primarily a certain color and make a colleague of them! It encourages you to go outside and explore things and uses a little bit of creativity.

Another cool thing I've only really done for university but I want to get back into is making my own herbarium. All you need is a little bit of plant knowledge, go out for a walk collect leaves from trees/shrubs/flowers and try to identify them (websearch or plant id book). Press them between books and then label them in a scrapbook or I've seen some people mount them in a photo frame.

Sorry I'm a very Outdoor type of person so a lot of these are outdoor activities. But I hope it kind of gives you some idea on new things you could potentially do.

idk if these will interest you but:

I go different parks & public places and bring plant ID books with me, and I try to identify all the plants that I can.

I cut the opinion pieces out of newspapers and write analyses of them :)

Fish tank

Researching your interests but like in a very in depth way and trying to find every possible information about it you can. Websites, books, articles, etc

I had an obsession with trombones and I researched EVERYTHING about trombones

Or im just autistic but that what I do for fun sometimes

i LOVE GENEAOLOGY!!! family history to me is sooo fascinating to me. personally, i could look at old documents from the 1800s for HOURS, very useful because im pretty good at reading cursive/messy handwriting. i love connecting the dots between people like omg for example, i research a person and find out that same person was the godparent of my great great great grandma 😱. i wish my family had more photos taken of them but the majority of my ancestors were poor farmers R I P

@emely ୨୧ i second this! i can literally spend all night doing this lolz

surgically implant technology under you skin at your gaming setup

Not sure if this is very niche but I LOVE skateboarding. It’s a great way to pass time and clear ur mind! I also go to local crystal stores and collect crystals and jewelry.

@BL1NGZ_G0T_$WAG FR! Every since my dad built a ramp for me, I couldn't stop using it. I go outside at least 4 times a day now to skate and I've been getting pretty good too.

I try to take photos of different areas around my neighborhood/city with my Lavender Instax Film Camera, and I pin them in my room on my wall or in my photo album :D It's a really fun way to capture moments compared to phone, and the process of actually having the picture films is so much fun!

find a code or encryption alphabet (?) you like and journal all of your evil master plans in it (incredibly fun normal journaling is boring as shit) Or make your own you can add rules and informal and formal language and all that

shoplifting.

that's about it, go to the nearest store and shoplift the cheapest (or most expensive item) that you find cool, this probably counts as a felony but you only live once

I_AM_NOT_A_DEFECT.

I live near a forest preserve. I like to take my bunny out at night and show him the trees nearby and feed animals. If you live near a forest as well, I recommend trying to feed birds and deer. They are very sweet and it is very fun.

theres an omnichord emulator website and its so fun to play around with, if ur a fan of adventure time or steven universe almost all songs can be pretty easily played on there

I love making stuff out of soda and energy drink cans :^) weapons, accessories, props, all kinds of stuff.

Also u could start a collection. It could be of whatever the heck u please. bug collection, a perfume collection, and a hand sanitiser collection, pressed flower collection.

(I like collecting things from nature; I have a bug collection myself)
