I don't use any other social media besides FriendRewind at the moment

I can't simply ignore what happens in the world so I also read the news, someone told me that some journalists post on Bluesky

Is it a good way to keep myself informed?

afaik its a decentralized and free alternative to the ai slop fest that is twitter

never rly used it though tbh, lmk how you get on with it :3

@max Glad to hear there's no ai lol

Today I learned they got rid of their invite system two years ago lmao. I hadn't considered it bc I knew I didnt have an invite. If you do end up using it, would love to hear how it goes.

two things awe me most: the starry sky above me, and the moral law within me"

@medeuxsa If I do, I'll share how it is! (hope I don't forget hehe)

Yes, I am on Bluesky and I enjoy it! It is where scholars and journalists migrated to after Twitter became X

@Kayla⟡ Is it true that is more "peaceful" than X?

@Sorte for sure, you have more control of what you see since it's decentralized

The algorithm is a mess.

More or less the same as twitter but with people who think they're not as bad as twitter from what I hear

@Nehiri I use bluesky and thats exactly it

i used it for a little bit, mostly lingered in the art section. it's quiet, i never witnessed any fights, no heated anything. if you're looking for reach maybe not the way to go, but if you're just looking to browse and hang, it's very soft and calm (from what i saw anyway, they could have a whole hot take wwe section that i never saw lol)

@majesstiqe yes 100% agree!

@Kayla⟡ ayee😎 (twitter/x=dystopia and bluesky=eutopia✨)

I'm on bluesky, but I'm 'meh' about it. It is definitely a better place that X, but I like back and forth chit chat, sometimes in depth discussions, and the platform is just not built for that.

twitter is horrible and i can't imagine bluesky being any better. both are just a political cesspools, and i'd rather stay away from websites like that. they make me feel miserable.

Tbh it keeps trying to make me verify my age so I stopped using it, but while I was on there it was pretty good tbh. I kinda wish I didn't have to stop using it but I'm not invading my own privacy just to use an app

I use it for work and i order it to Twitter and all the other big social media. But I prefer it here.

If I may suggest, I would definitely consider subscribing to What The Fuck Just Happened Today if you're looking for a good spot to get news. It's a daily newsletter that gives a brief summary on current political events. It's free, and it's a great way to avoid the misinformation that can sometimes get spread through social media based news!

(It also helps to combat doomscrolling habits, for anyone who might get stuck in the cycle of Evil Dopamine like I tend to!)

I have a Bluesky.

Honestly, I don't recommend it if you already dislike Twitter. To echo what others have said, it's basically the same, but with people who think they're better (or, to be more specific, people who're more left-wing/progressive, in terms of political leaning)
You still see fights and arguments, you still have people trying way too hard to be morally upstanding or trying too hard to not offend people and policing each other
Depending on where you align morally/politically, Bluesky might be even worse since some people are just that direction-brained, to where they end up saying/believing really stupid shit because "well the bad people believe this, so clearly being equally as terrible in the other direction is better!"
Bluesky is also more inconsistent with NSFW and way too trigger happy with fucking deleting your account at a moment's notice (My account got permanently deleted once because I liked a post from an account that broke their incredibly vague and inconsistent rules on what NSFW content is and is not allowed--and of course, it didn't tell me which account it was or what post I liked, I just got fucked because I happened to come across a random post I liked lol)

This is an aside, but if you want to see some really funny shit, look up Clearsky and look at some of the blocklists, one of the more infamous things about Bluesky is how trigger-happy people are with putting you on blocklists, there's one blocklist for "Xenoblade 2 apologists", where the guy just throws a fucking tantrum if you're even friends with people who like Xenoblade 2 on the Nintendo Switch lol
because of the blocklist shenanigans, I find myself running into accounts that have me blocked for no immediately discernable reason semi-often!

To end things on a positive note, if you're more politically left-wing or progressive, Bluesky is the site for you! You likely won't run into people you hate! The blocking features are also insanely good in that it makes the person you blocked completely disappear, you can't even see their posts or anything! It's also incredibly customizable, you have different "Feeds" you can pin and unpin and customize to your liking! And if you don't like certain types of content (say, NSFW or AI-generated images, for example), or if you don't like certain topics or keywords, you can add them to your blacklist or set certain options to "warn" or "hide" and you flat-out won't see them ever again! It even automatically hides certain accounts!
Bluesky absolutely has Twitter beat when it comes to customization, with Twitter, I had to install a plugin that disabled the For You tab and made Retweets their own separate tab just for me to make it usable.

This was really long, so to tl;dr it's basically just left-wing/Trans Rights Twitter

I want to pick up this call.

It’s just as bad as Twitter/X, except worse because the goddamn filters don’t fucking work. People constantly labeled it as being better, but after a few months I struggled to see how. No, having a different political leaning doesn’t make it better. It’s just as much of a toxic cesspool as Twitter is.

Not to mention, at least when I still had my account, it was extremely easy to come across NSFW content even with the filters on. People just didn’t bother tagging their content properly, so my feed always had the occasional fetish post. I have nothing against people expressing their sexual side online, but if I had the choice I’d rather not see it.

At some point, I got super tired of seeing US politics and weird fetish shit in my feed, in the end I just deleted my account. I don’t miss it one bit.
