Currently watching this movie with my family and oh my God.
- It’s so America-centred. Painfully so. All footage from other nations (which are rare in this movie about a WORLDWIDE catastrophe) are, in my view, highly stereotypical.
- All women in this movie are victims of misogynist, “sexualised” humour. ALL OF THEM. Even the wife of the dude with the telescope is shown to be in an emotionally abusive relationship. Her first fucking line is “I want a divorce”, and it was delivered in a way meant to be funny.
- Add this up with the fact that the women have NO ROLES other than to be supporting characters for the men. Or wives. Or girlfriends. Or mothers. Or strippers. Lots of strippers.
All of this to say Hollywood is… yeah. Not for me. If you like this movie, great! I’m glad. I however do not.
