Hey there my ghouls!
River here once again with a new blog!
Keeping my word, today I´m bringing you some easter eggs from the Backrooms movie! In this occasion, we´re looking at all the nods to the original Youtube found footage content
If you want to check out my analysis of the full movie, please click here -> https://friendrewind.com/blog/user.php?id=14147
Anyway, let´s dive in!
1.- At the beginning of the movie, we come across a demolition scene of Mary´s old residential area. If we look closely at the sign, we can see that the General Contractor is listed as “Reverchon Ventures”. This is a clear nod to Julien Reverchon, the botanist who inspired “The Rolling Giant” a key character in Kane Pixels other major analog horror series “The Oldest View”

2.- During the first third of the movie, Clark finally enters the complex after nonclipping into the basement wall. After wandering around for a bit he encounters a cardboard cutout of a caveman in the middle of a hallway. This is an exact homage to the YouTube video, Backrooms-Found Footage #3, where the protagonist encounters one of these silhouettes.
These cutouts are placed throughout the labyrinth by ASYNC as an acoustic and visual decoy to lure, contain and study entities. The recording played by the caveman is also an interesting artifact…it is a real item called the “Voyager Golden Record” which contains audio greetings in 55 different languages. This real-world phonograph record was created by a committee led by astronomer Carl Sagan and launched into deep space by NASA in 1977 aboard the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft as a cosmic time capsule to be found by any alien life.

3.- The areas cordoned off with blue tape are identical to the ones seen in the original short films; these are boundaries used to mark danger zones where you can slip into the backrooms, they're known as Null Zones

4.- During the chase scene between Clark and the creature, there´s a brief shot lasting just a few seconds where the camera focuses on the exact same angle as the iconic 2019 photograph that started the entire internet myth

5.- In the first shot, underneath the store name we can read “Ottoman Empire”, which is Kane Pixels discord channel name.

6.- During the final chase sequence of the movie, we can see the “green lights”- the exact same ones that appear in Backrooms-Found Footage #2

7.- Throughout the movie we see illustrations of a sun; this exact same design can be found in Backrooms-Found Footage #3

8.- At the end of the movie, the camera pans across different locations within the complex where Mary´s recent memories are being assimilated. In one of them, we can see a row of “Missing” posters featuring Kat and Bobby´s faces. If we look closely at Kane Pixels short film “Missing Persons”, we can appreciate the nod, as they use the exact same format for the posters.

9.- If you stick around for the credits, Ivan Beck´s name can be read under the special thanks section. He is none other than the head director and founder of the ASYNC Research Institute!

And here we are at the end of this vlog!
Honestly, it´s one of those short but sweet ones.
I'm actually pretty proud of all the references this movie has left for us die hard fans of found footage projects.
What about you? Did you notice any of these nods while watching the film? Do you know of any others that I missed?
Feel free to comment, I can´t wait to read your thoughts!
That´s all for now :)
Stay curious, my ghouls.
Your internet Spanish girl says bye-bye!!!
