so this is something ive been wanting to talk about since hs this one experience that i always found was weird and yk since I have my own blog might as well talk about it. so back in hs i was dating a blk trans girl. things we're cool and good between us. one day we came out the gym yk bc we had this rally or smth i forgot what it was but everyone had to be in the gym and after the event she walked with me and just told me, "you know, you talk like a white guy even though you're black" and i was confused by that. like what do you mean by that?? i asked her and she just told me, "your black you don't even say the n word." and i said to her just because i don't say 'nigga' doesn't make me less black. like my family are all black and i never once heard them say the n word so i never grew up hearing it from them or saying it. im not from the hood im from the suburbs and im not ghetto or wild either. my ex did grow up around parts of the hood so i wouldn't know what the hood is like or what her experience was like growing up there. but why does it matter so much if I say one word? why do i have to act a certain way or talk a certain way just to be 'seen as black?' i don't get it. like just because i don't talk walk or act the way how other black people do doesn't make me less black. im not white and i'll never be white because that's not my race. im black end of story. ever since that experience it just made me question things and question myself if i was even black enough which is so stupid to me because why should i have to be asking myself that? hello?? i know my race and i know who i am. yeah im different but that ain't a bad thing. i will never let people tell me that im not 'black enough' or i act white bc i don't talk the way other blk people do. the whole fucking thing is stupid and dumb. has any other black or poc experience this and if so what was your experience like?Â

I've experienced something like this even from family or family friends. Once I put some music on in the car for my aunt, it was alt rock music, and she asked why do I listen to white people music. Which I didn't know how to respond to some nonsense like that so I just turned the music off
I've also gotten, "You speak so clearly/well!" Like how am I supposed to sound? Incoherent?? It's ridiculous how it always comes from other black people as well. Why are people still perpetuating these kinda things in our own communities :/
