can we stop gatekeeping music genres PLEASE

I see so many people js getting into emo music (im talking abt emo music specifically bc im more active in those spaces) and they'll be like "My favourite screamo band is bmth, my favourite emo band is mcr" and a bunch of people will be like "well ur a poser yap yap yap stfu yap yap yap" like holy shit. Yes they aren't emo bands, but they're probably new to the scene? Also mcr had a SUPER big impact on the emo subculture, most emo people wouldn't be emo if it wasn't for them.

Technically, all your favourite artists are NOTHING bc they ALL rejected the labels of being emo, grunge, goth etc, and thats a big part of what made them that genre. Most of the alternative people in the 80s-2000s rejected labels!1!1!!

And it just feels so weird and like isn't this supposed to be a community where people who are "outcasts" or feel like they "don't fit in" or js simply wanna express themseleves and live their truest selves can like js do that??? 

I promise you 90% of "actual" emo people started with mcr, p!atd, paramore etc. Just let people who are starting out like what they like and call themselves what they like. And even if they continue to like mcr or whatever again, really? Who cares. Like my first introduction into emo was p!atd at 10. I thought they were the shit (their older albums r the shit tho, peak!), and they got me into my horrific side bangs (Thankfully i have better ones now), my dark blue skinny jeans because I couldn't find black, and all that shit. I wldnt be here without them.

do u really think the people who started these subcultures would have cared that much?

Ur not cool for sounding like that copy pasta "Erm! real emo! only! consists of! the emotional! hardcore scene!" 

and ofc I do think being emo is about listening to the music, but at the end of the day its supposed to be fun, its supposed to be about authentic expression, DIY, anti-establishmentism, pissing off conservatives, and having empathy. And this applies for most subcultures btw! Why is that suddenly gone when someone is just getting into the culture and wants to try different shit out? 

Also, if you want people to get into "real" emo, it doesn't help when most of the posts are contradicting one another on what an emo band actually is. Of course they're gonna stick to what they know anyways, or get scared of trying something else out. 

can we js stop poser policing? most of the people getting policed r minors, come on, let them experiment.
