yesss especially the last part, everyone wants a specific thing to be 'theirs' and sometimes people dont even like the thing they just like it for the sake of liking it before it becomes famous

Exactly, its so overwhelming its like we cant escape the late stage capitalism for consuming our brain in most social media. Like personally in my case why are you posting about animes you havent even finished and gained an overall idea of? i dont want to come off like im controlling like post whatever you wanna post but i dont think its smart to base your personality of off something you dont have full perception on? because when people realize thats actually something they didnt really align personally with its too late and they just come off as posers. Like can we all just exist without feeling like we have to take ownership of media to be a person online? Like even i am guilty of it but i just wish it wasnt so rampant...

100% taking the words from my brain (except they're your words, which are cooler 😁). I absolutely despise the culture that mainstream social media creates when it comes to being "connected" to people and/or our hobbies. I deleted my old account and started a new insta and limited my followers to about 50 instead of 200. I found it odd that once I immediately made my new account, the people who I had wanted to distance myself from or had't heard from started to send follow requests...

On your other points, it's rough drawing the line between trend-hopping and showing your passions. It's totally okay for people to discover new interests through trends, but I especially feel rubbed the wrong way when it's used by those who are always hopping trends themselves and paying no respect to the people who invented, already participated in, or aren't rich/popular/attractive enough to be in their circle. I love seeing people post extensively about their interests, artistic processes, or breakdowns in their favorite topics, and I feel like it can be quite easy to detect the most authentic people... Which is why I love this site hehe

thanks for the very necessary words!
