another question for you guys, if we lived in a world where we had complete gender equality from the start, would gender even come to exist?

Report

it is stupid and needlessly confusing and nothing but labels and stereotypes. gender identity only exists because of western internet culture and legal identity bureaucracy

yeah, thats how i feel. like even tho i am a girl and dont want to really be called anything else, i cant explain why im so attached to this label? like what does it even add to my identity? if it doesnt add anything does it even really matter? eventually i kind of fell deeper and deeper into this rabbit hole in my mind and eventually got to the question on whether gender even exists in the first place lol.

and tbf, im pretty sure gender is kind of a worldwide thing. in places such as asia, gender still definitely existed. for me, the most obvious example would be in muslim countries. many of these places followed islam before they were colonised or had any western influences but in the quran there are separate and defining roles for each gender. however, in the quran, many of the stories were inspired by the bible as christianity is older than islam and stuff. so maybe they were influenced that way. before all of that im not really sure if gender was as significant as it is today.

i dont really think the internet played a massiveee part in gender. this is because gender has been around from like minimum 4000BCE bc that was when the greeks were around and they had male and female gods. and unlike chinese gods where they can change their gender whenever they like to whatever they like (this could show that their idea of gender could have been more fluid, but bc im not chinese, nor do i know anything about their gods or historical societies and views, i cant say much. actually tbf i think it was also lowk strict bc of palace culture and concubines and stuff... to tell u the truth im just getting this info from chinese animes ive watched.. sue me, at least im admitting i dont actually know shit), the olympian gods kind of just stayed whatever gender they were (from my own knowledge). yes the internet has definitely played some part but idk man.

and finally for the 'legal identity bureaucracy', idk dude. i feel like the law and stuff and yk, all the misogynistic stuff within these laws were just reflections of their contemporary views of gender. obviously the rich and wealthy manipulated these laws so that they could benefit more (example, women essentially being sold off during marriage, them unable to own property, some places im pretty sure the female side of the family give a dowry) but these laws and stuff were justified by religion most of the time. so therefore its more of a societal issue than a governmental one..? obviously its still a governmental issue bc they were the ones who made these rules into law, but if society doesnt change then the law wont either. im reading back on what i wrote and i think i went kind of on a tangent on the wrong thing but i do think that this view is valid so yeah. to tell u the truth im not a 100% sure on what you meant by that last bit. im a bit embarrassed to admit it lol but yeah. i think its close enough from what i think you meant so hopefully you like my very long comment..? :')

im sorry, i dont really have anyone to speak to about this bc i lowk live in a transphobic household and idk how to bring this up with my friends bc its such a long topic so ive just been spiralling by myself for a while haha. i think i might just shut up now.
