They polish the mirror
They look through themselves
to avoid seeing themselves.
They come to be seen
by The Man who looks through them.
They do not love Him
because He is merciless.
He is merciless
because that is how they love Him.
They adore the part of Him
that cannot redden.
They kneel before it
until their knees split
until the blood
until the mirror accepts
an offering.
an offering.
an offering.
Pure people.
Purifying people.
People who make themselves pure
in whatever the world
can be made to bleed.

Deeply stirring.
I am undecided whether this speaks to a statement on patriarchy, or dysphoria.
But I figure a good one ... a deep one ... speaks on many levels.
thank you <3 and wow now i'm re-reading it and i didn't think about dysphoria, but yes totally

That's why I love art so much. It is a relationship you have with the art. It echoes the relationship with the artist, even centuries later, but your relationship with the art might be totally different than that of the artist or what they may have intended.
Whatever you truly may have meant, don't tell me! 🥰
