I've had so many new 16 year old co-workers and it continues to baffle me how many simple things they do not understand.
My anger isn't directed towards these teens, my frustration is with their parents. They are 16, how the fuck have their parents not taught them how to properly clean? To properly hold a knife???
This frustration very much comes from a personal place because I WAS that kid and it enrages me to see other kids forced to feel stupid because their parents are incompetent and probably only had them to check the box off of "adult things to do" instead of actually wanting children.
I come from an extremely dysfunctional household so it pisses me off how common this is.
And if you don't think a 16 year old should have to know these things (WHICH THEY SHOULD) then don't fucking let them have a job.
Jesus fucking christ, take care of your own kids, don't leave it to some strangers to do what you haven't. You (hopefully) made the conscious choice to bring A LIVING BEING to this world, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.

I know what you mean and the answer is no. These parents live on their phones now trying to establish a public persona and neglect to do ANY parenting. I was working with someone you described and they didn't know the difference between a dime and nickel. Also, when it was time to clean the sandwich station, he asked me to bring the heavy sandwich counter which detaches from the work station and carry it all the way to the back to wash. As a "man", how he could have asked me to lift something so heavy, which I did and another girl helped me. It was disgusting. He constantly would have his girlfriend come in on his shift and he would serve her food and drink free of charge. (this was a coffee shop). I'm grossed out by the laziness and lack of work ethic. I hate that everyone gets paid the same when the younger employees sit on their phones the entire shift and neglect to do anything. The ones that don't know anything do have their parents as to blame.

for real, that is (unfortunately) happening in Brazil as well! A video of a girl who didn't know how to cut a SAUSAGE recently went viral, and a few days later, a video of a boy whose mom had asked him to cut some bread also went viral because he didn't know how, and the funny thing is that the moms even posted the videos as if it were something to be proud of that they hadn't taught their kids THE BASICS of how to take care of themselves, and they were just like, laughing, bro..and the saddest part is that they will all be dysfunctional adults in a few years and they'll have to figure things out on their own, as the world teaches them what their parents didn't...

Hm, I do agree with you on this especially in the last part.
I don't know unfortunately, maybe many parents nowadays just leave their children on an iPad instead of teaching them a lot of important things they needed to learn.
Hopefully there are still many Responsible Parents out there raising children properly with good moral values, good discipline and raising them to be able to stand on their own feet.

Yeah, unfortunately it seems that's how some parents resort to when it comes to raising kids and it just doesn't turn out well when the kids grew up.
