An entirely unnecessary investigation into the many personalities living rent free in my head.
I have come to the conclusion that my personality is less of a cohesive identity and more of a very poorly organized Pinterest board.
I am simultaneously a hardcore kid, a 90 year old woman who loves tea, and a small Victorian child who becomes inconsolable over a particularly cute figurine.
Make it make sense. Because I Certainly cannot.
One minute, I am listening to Terror or Title Fight and the next, I'm making myself a lil matcha latte while contemplating whether or not I need another Calico Critter.
The answer is yes, obviously.
I have spent an unreasonable amount of my adult life collecting tiny objects that serve absolutely no practical purpose beyond making my heart happy. Sminskis, Mofusands, stickers, pins, little figurines...if it's miniature and adorable, it's probably coming home with me.
I don't make the rules. I am simply a victim of whimsy.
♡ And then there's my little old lady era ♡
I have become the kind of person who gets genuinely excited about making bread.
BREAD.
I named my sourdough starter Deb. My bread machines nickname is Lil Hammie. I have strong opinions about the texture of milk bread, and I spend an alarming amount of time thinking about the flavour of syrup that would go nicely with my next matcha.
Who have I become?
Actually, don't answer that. I am having a wonderful time.
The thing is, I used to think that all my interests needed to make sense together. That there was supposed to be some kind of consistent theme to my likes and interests.
But the older I get, the more I realize that maybe being a person isn't supposed to be so quite so tidy.
I can love loud, angry music and delicate little flowers.
I can enjoy disturbing horror movies and cry over a fictional cat.
I can be a little rough around the edges while still being an incredibly sentimental person.
I can be soft without being fragile, and I can be a little strange without needing to explain myself.
Maybe all these seemingly contradictory little interests aren't contradictory at all.
Maybe they're just different pieces of the same person.
And honestly? I think that's kind of lovely.
I like that I still get ridiculously excited over small things. I like that a beautiful moth, a new book, a perfectly made matcha, or finding an adorable little trinket can completely turn my day around.
Life can be so exhausting, and sometimes the world feels unnecessarily heavy. I think there's something really special about holding onto the things that make us feel like children again.
Not because we're immature, but we haven't completely lost our sense of wonder.
And I'd really like to keep mine.
So yes, I contain multitudes.
Unfortunately, most of them are easily distracted, emotionally attached to inanimate objects, and finacially irresponsible around tiny figures.
But they're all me.
And I think I'll keep them. ♡
PS: If anyone needs me, I'll be listening to an audiobook while dreaming of matcha and researching whether I can justify purchasing another small plastic animal.
