July Books

I know the month hasn't ended yet but I really want to put my thoughts down on the books I have read this month! 

This month I read 4 books those being: 

1. 1984 by George Orwell 

2. The Stranger by Albert Camus 

3. The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka 

4. Other Love and Demons by Gabriel García Márquez 

On my StoryGraph I rated them but this blog is mostly my thoughts on the books.

1984 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Other than George Orwell being controversial due to his tainted past, I rated this book five stars! I personally recommend this book as it shows that the human mind is very strong and how we survive in this world is to use it, especially when the state is trying to push away the idea of free thinking. 

The book really showed me that we, as a society live in a form of totalitarianism currently, not so much a dystopia but I have seen governments do exactly what this book preaches against and honestly, I've learnt to rebel against those who commit these actions. 

The Stranger  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

As a big fan of Albert Camus and someone who believes and embraces in (positive) Absurdism as my core philosophy in life, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As I have read 'The Myth of Sisyphus' and 'The Rebel' before this book, I have come to understand Meursaults character. 

Meursault is the manifestation of a Absurdist, he lacks emotion and see's life as meaningless even after he commits a crime and his mother passes away. He soon faces the absurd and the trials that he has to go through as the courts decide whether or not to give the man a death sentence. 

If you like short books that gives you suspense, dread or over all trying to understand what the main character is feeling or going through, I highly recommend this book! 

The Metamorphosis ★★★★☆

Now I have been thinking about this book for years and like a fool, I didn't read it until now. 

Gregor Samsa is a traveling sales man that lives with his family, he wakes up one morning to find that he has morphed into a giant bug. His family soon finds out and has trouble accepting the fact that their son has turned into a insect, treating him like a burden since he was the main income for the family... this forces them to look for employment. 

This book honestly made me understand Gregor even more since I also feel like a giant bug, I am currently unemployed and someone who feels isolated and or a burden by the eyes of people around me. I started to lose communication with some people like my family which over all pains me. 

The reason I gave it four stars and mostly because I would've loved more to the story and personally I felt like the ending was a bit rushed. 

Other Love and Demons ★★★☆☆

I just have finished this book yesterday which would be.. July 29 2026 as your reading this. This book took me a while to finish, mainly because how graphic it was even if I read the warnings beforehand... so if you aren't comfortable with reading disgusting relationships between adults and children then please refrain from reading this! 

As I have enjoyed the beginning and middle, the ending felt rushed to me and much more graphic than the other parts of the book. Of course, there are a lot of interpretations to this book and honestly I am still trying to piece mine together. 

This book is placed in the 18th century in Colombia, a 12 year old girl is soon bitten by a dog that has rabies. She is taken to a convent where she is put in a cell and treated like a possessed individual. A man named Cayetano Delaura (from what I remember is 31) who is a priest, preys upon Sierva María and tries to explore this infatuation with her.

Over all Márquez is a great story teller and that's the main reason why I have it three stars because the book was really good at creating this world for the reader
