little rant about my job as a daycare teacher

guys, kids are MEAN.

ive been working at my daycare for almost a year now and i have been bitten, sneezed on, punched, kicked, and my hair tore out by a kids teeth.ย

are some kids adorable and i absolutely love them? of course! but, alot of them are just plain mean.ย

oh, and dont get me started on parents,,, i have a parent who at least once a week complains about the ipad being on at the end of the day. which, sure, i can understand if she was picking him up in the middle of the day and the ipad was on and im just sitting there doing absolutely nothing. but, no, she picks him up either AT closing time (for those who dont work at a daycare, its the equivalent of someone coming in and ordering food when youre about to close in 5 minutes) or thirty minutes before. and, sorry to her, but i have to clean up my classroom and be gone by the time we close. so, hell yeah im gonna put the ipad on some sheriff labrador and make the kids sit down so theyre not running around and throwing toys everywhere while im trying to vacuum. she also is the type of parent who doesnt want her child watching more than 30 minutes of screen time a WEEK. i feel bad for complaining about her specifically, because she is nice, but she also doesnt seem to grasp that her child being a brat is normal and isnt something that us, the daycare, is somehow making him do.ย

also, something that alot of parents dont grasp, is that not only do i have THEIR kid in the class, but also up to eight others. imagine being in a room with eight three year olds for seven to eight hours a day, its hell.ย

i also have quite a few parents who use the kids having certain set backs (like speech problems) or them having autism as an excuse for their child acting out. like, yessir i know your child cant speak yet and hes 3....but he bit four people just today. that isnt an excuse!ย

again, dont get me wrong, i love my kids there...but i def would love the job more if i didnt have to deal with parents or dhs.ย

I am a social work major and yeah so many parents do not realize how significant of a role they play in the development of their child and itโ€™s beyond frustrating. Like dude if your kid is acting out youโ€™re most likely at fault in some way? Youโ€™re supposed to practice operant conditioning (specifically positive reinforcement) and also set reasonable boundaries. You canโ€™t be an overly permissive parent but canโ€™t be overly authoritarian either, both parenting styles can cause issues.

no, literally! like, the first mom i was talking about, everyday when she comes and picks him up from school he runs away from her and sometimes will like run into other classrooms and close the doors and stuff. she doesnt scold him, doesnt tell him he cant do that or that he needs to be nice. she almost finds it funny??? again, shes a very nice lady, but she did also tell me once that he was acting up at home and she believed that it mightve been because of how messy the classroom was when she would come to pick him up everydayย
(the mess she was talking about was the toys on the floor. which was alot but was only there because we have a few autistic kids in that specific room and they will pour the buckets all over the floor and i have no energy to pick them up 10x times a day). Like, no, it might be because you never tell him no???
