Reading Kafka

Sup, guys. I bought some books yesterday because I have a lot of catching up to do. I wanna be smart and cool so we're diving into some classics. I decided to give Metamorphosis a try, see what the hype was about. You know, the synopsis and reviews describe it as, like, a tragedy with some comical bits in it. 

What a load of baloney. That book was sad through and through. 

Literally had me tearing up for poor Gregor here. Can you imagine. Suddenly waking up as a bug--a huge one, at that--unable to communicate with your family whilst being able to understand them still. The bits about him and his relationship with his sister killed me so much. Even in his transformation, he still tries to provide comfort for his family. The violin, the apple, covering himself with a sheet, all just to wither away in the end.

It made me sad that his family didn't feel some sort of sadness at his passing. I understand, in a way, that relief isn't exactly a bad emotion to feel. But even if they didn't see him as Gregor anymore, surely it would've cemented the loss of their son, a brother. Not just a source of income. 

The way the parents had a shift in perception about their daughter was a little sad, too. To me, it seemed like she was now to take Gregor's place, seen as their new hope for the future. 

It was a really quick read but I enjoyed it. I'll try to read more of Kafka's works when I get the chance. For now, though, I'm reading On the Road by Kerouac.
