Okay so these arent exactly high sci-fi but theyre all really unique in how the use sci-fi elements! The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells is a series of novellas detailing the adventures of a security android that jailbroke itself and basically just wants to be left alone- but it can’t do that for risk of blowing it’s cover and being reset. REALLY fun, great narration, do not watch the tv series.

2) The Illuminae files, a trilogy of YA/middle grade sci-fi books in an epistolary format following a mysterious outbreak aboard a cruise class spaceship. It plays around a ton with the format of using data files, security cameras, and the inner thoughts of an overbearing AI, and it’s a kinda quick read because of that, but also a fun and wild reading experience, the books kinda vary in actual writing quality however.Ā

3) Vampire Hunter D, a very, very long running series of books that’s a mix of Fantasy, westerns, and Sci-Fi, has a good movie (Bloodlust) that takes some liberties but overall still rules. It deals a lot with darker themes however so be prepared if you want to go into it. About a Half-Blood fairly immortal man named D who hunts vampires, and also has a pact with a demon who talk through his left hand. Robot horses included.Ā

Admittedly i need to get into more scifi lit as well. I may end up stalking these comments to see if anyone has any recs too lolĀ

ohhhh the first one sounds exactly what im looking for thank u!! on an android kick rn i think .. i like stuff with more android centred pov.

im also way intrigued by vampire hunter d it sounds insane but im actually so terrible with long series... do u manage to keep up with any?? i always get stuck at book 4/5 with like. Any series i just can't make it past that it's a universal law.Ā

VHD is one of those series that’s so old, its like, if you want to be caught up to the full series you can, but a lot of it’s more iconic stories are in the early books. While the series has the overarching plot of D’s struggles and mortality, each one is its own adventure. I don’t really see others in the fandom putting pressure to constantly keep up with the books either, so it’s really whatever you feel like.Ā

Also Ł©( ᐛ )و yesyesyess we need more murderbot fans

IĀ don'tĀ knowĀ anyĀ goodĀ sciĀ fiĀ books but if you want to read a laughably bad one (in my opinion) then I recommend Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell, though I guess it's more of a sci fi gay romance than just a regular sci fi book.

now if you want a good sci fi show/comic book series, FARSCAPE!! oh my god I love Farscape. it's Muppets trapped in space with a Florida Man, it's so funny. and usually free to watch on various platforms. sorry my recs are bad, I hope you find good books!!! :D

i LOVE terrible books one of my fav series on youtube is goosedrunks where the host takes a shot every time there's a cliche in goosebumps books pahahah i must get on winter's orbit asap

OO also noted!!! ive definitely been on a space curve recently too with phm so ill take a look @ farscape!

Rendezvous with Rama blew my mind when I read it... also goes without saying but the original Dune series. Asimov's foundation if you want something with a distinctly old school feel but nonetheless amazing concepts therein... And if you want more cyberpunk, go for Neuromancer by William Gibson and then proceed to some of his other works

id never heard of rendezvous with rama but woah the reviews for it are glowing.. not the kind of thing id usually pick up but ill check my library today for sure :D

electric sheep is the first even vaguely cyberpunkesque thing ive read so neuromancer is a great rec too .. thank you!
