so tired of the romanticisation of autism

this has been said countless of times before but oh em gee does it annoy me. it feels like ever since neurodivergence has become something seen as quirky and fun, people do not take it seriously anymore. i will tell people about my audhd and nobody bats an eye which -- GREAT,,,at first. but the second u start showing symptoms, people will STILL look at you weirdly and be annoyed. like i am very sorry that my disability that affects SOCIAL INTERACTIONS affects my social interactions??? obviously, it is amazing that the stigma around autism has somewhat lifted but somewhere along the way we got lost. instead of normalising it, we started romanticising it which feels almost as harmful. autistic individuals are still being infantilised and being made fun of but for some reason, everyone wants to be autistic at the same time which is,,,pretty odd (teehee). i promise u, it is okay to have interests and be quirky as a neurotypical person, u do NOT have to be autistic to be interesting!!!! sorry, its kind of hard to get my point across without constantly repeating what i or others have already said but i've been thinking about this tonight and became very frustrated ;((
