I always here this idea that social media has made us more closed off than ever and I personally don't share the sentiment at all. Friendrewind/Spacehey are proof that this isn't true. Social Media as it exists in the current age has for sure, but not social media as a whole.
Companies have turned every aspect of being social into a money gaining scheme have ruined it for us. I would argue that in the early 2000's social media brought people together more than ever before. Myspace, AIM, MSN Messenger, WoW, Chat Rooms, ect. Now we have websites that don't want to us to talk to each other. All you need to do is click a reaction, no need to leave a comment. They hide our feeds so we can't see what our friends say. They remove all creativity from the platform so we can't express ourselves and talk about it with each other.
They push AI, Ads, bugs, and more to the point we can't even stand these sites anymore. They remove all the need to interact with each other and turn these platforms into revenue machines. Friendrewind has reminded me that people love to talk, we love to engage, we love to gush. We didn't stop because we grew tired of it, we stopped because companies stopped giving us the ability too. They just want us to be quiet and accept their terms.
We need to take back the internet more than ever and bring more places like these back to life and restore what made being online fun.

It stopped being a means of connecting people and became engineered to squeeze as much engagement out of users as possible. The algorithm wants you to keep scrolling, watch this ad, buy this product, scroll some more.
100 percent on the doomscrolling part. I should have mentioned that too. It's quite sad too. It doesn't even want you to engage with the video's anymore either. They want you to stop for a couple seconds to generate the ad revenue and then have to scroll again. Lots of click bait as well. Though that's always existed in some form, it's just gotten worse as time goes on. Most video sharing sites have this issue now

Exactly, right. Not to mention, modern social media is a form of controlling media. Its sad to see that actual web traffic is also down because the biggest search engines now have the ability to summarize everything.
I couldn't agree more. It removes the need to actually engage with what you are searching for and get a deep understanding of what it is. Not to mention as well the rabbit holes you'd be lead down just looking through random sites
