Today my father who is in his 80's asked me to cut the limb off of a tree and I firmly said
no, that it was against what I stand for and that I wouldn't aid in harming a tree. Not to be
cruel, but I care more about trees than I do people, because they don't hurt anyone. Quite
the opposite in fact- They supply us with the oxygen we need to breathe, they provide us
natural shade, and food for all. I just don't see it a suitable explanation to say that it's
touching the house and when I tell him that the leaves aren't putting pressure on the roof or
scraping the house, he switches his reasoning up and says it's because it's turning the roof
green. So no! Not a suitable explanation and I'm not budging. He said he couldn't do it
himself and that made me feel kind of bad, but when and if the tree does start bearing
weight upon the house, then I will help "prune the limb", but maybe not even then. It's
moments like these that are tests to see if we do the right thing even if it feels
uncomfortable. As my dad was walking away he was saying "I've always been a weird one"
but that doesn't bother me at all. I am uniquely myself and I will not change that!!
I'm like the Lorax in that I will always fight for the trees.
