what do you think will happen to console gaming with all the increases in prices and anti customer practices?
is it just a rough spot that people will move on from or will more people switch to PCs by the end of this decade?

i have no clue but i would not be surprised if playstation and xbox fizzled out cuz of this. in like 8 years people will be going "hey what happened to playstation and xbox? those consoles were so cool."
playstation, yeah sure not surprised if it dies next year but xbox? xbox will continue to exist, if not as a console then as a really convenient service
also i kinda act like that for the sega dreamcast, R.I.P to the dreamcast

I really suck at PC gaming so idk what I’ll do if everything switches over😭
@Ms. Bitch✨ i said console gaming not controllers, third party controllers will always exist cuz fighting games and because people are willing to buy
if you meant PC building and maintaining it, yeahhhh that can be rough if you mainly use console

@yashujibs I’ve never had a controller for my PC😕 And all I have is a simple gaming laptop, so I don’t think it can run things that I play like Fortnite or Call of Duty.
@Ms. Bitch✨ the older call of duty games maybe
also modern controllers can be used on PC no problem

I personally think both sides will stagnate. I’m on the pc side of the fence and I can tell you that the price increases are crushing ram, storage and GPU’s. All of these have components that are made in the same fabrication facilities. Micron announced that they have reserved manufacturing capacity for the next 5 or so years.
These all have knock on effects for any device, not just computers and console that require NAND flash, think cars, IOT devices, phones, single board computers like the rasberry pi, robotic systems, you name it it’s probably gonna increase in price if not already
I cannot foresee anytime soon any influx of new pc builders and I think console gamers are going to stay on console but they won’t buy a new one in droves, since the price of entry for a dedicated gaming machine is becoming unobtainable. Why build or buy a prebuilt for an inflated price when you can keep the machine you already have.
TLDR; economy wise we're fucked regardless

the average console gamer isnt likely to swap over to pc i dont think, especially when theres going to be big price increases in general so they'll be no real incentive to swap over. i think most people are just going to stay on the systems they have until prices go down, similar to what happened with the ps5 and series x when they first launched.
i mean with the next generation of consoles would yall think there would be an increase to switching to PC?

@yashujibs not likely, consoles are way more easy and convenient for the average user than pc gaming is and like i said people will likely just stay on their current consoles until they can afford the next generation ones. a little off topic but i think this is gonna cause an even more dead console generation than the current one
@demolvrz the next genertion of AAA gaming will be awful thats for true
powerful system, tons of games but those games are actually just reskins of the older titles and0 nost the features are paywalled and said games wont be optimized

@yashujibs i mean all the consoles are going to have is the performance, the ps4 is still having games released for it even though we're 6 years into the ps5s life cycle because the playerbase is just too large because they cant afford the current generation. and i think that this problems gonna get even worse, everyone was laughing at the steam machines price but i expect the next playstation and xbox to cost around the same
it will not be a lot, but some might be switching over to pc. especially those who are into collecting physical, as i dont see the point of them staying anymore. i mean they're only there for the physicals, if we're going fully digital, why not switch to the best digital options that is pc? higher discounts, open ecosystem, and cough 🏴☠️
but the convenience of consoles are just unbeatable, some people just want to pop in their games and play without needing to check whether their pc could run it or not. it doesn't help that console is cheaper, and the price of pc is only getting higher and higher.
for me, its not console or pc, even physical or digital. if we're going fully-digital, so be it, it's the future of entertainment whether you like it or not. but it's how we own that content is the problem.

@KiwiKirsten
console is cheap?
its getting more and more expensive these days ,the pro version of the PS is getting more and more expensive
in 20 years or less buying a console would cost the same as a new car
i get that you mean that console is cheaper compared to PC but honestly everything is just getting so expensive and atp console vs pc is like buying a lamborghini without extras or with extras and if you don't buy the extras it blows up in 7-10 years

@yashujibs compared to pc it is cheap, and as i said people just want the convenience of a console — but pc just cant replicate it. you can buy a gaming laptop to try, but i think its even more expensive than a pc itself, so if you're really passionate about gaming, a pc is the better option. (also the fact that laptop doesnt fully replicate console's convenience.)
a generation of console could last for 5-6 years (and even more since new games will still be released on them for a good couple years. ps5 has been released since 2020, and the support for ps4 havent officialy ended as of today.) in that duration, who knows how much the pc market could evolve. i know you're not gonna constantly upgrade, but still.
the situation for console looks really bad right now, but trust me, it's not on the verge of blowing up. it still has it's own market, even if it looks grim right now.
and if the price of console in 20 years or less will be like buying a car, then pc would be higher than that.

I really hope companies don’t switch to pc only because I only have a chromebook from 2017 that can’t even run Roblox 💔
I do hate how expensive mainstream games & consoles have gotten (cough cough nintendo with a 500$ “new” console that barely changed) but idk how else I’d play my favorite games
@colgate okay this wasn’t really on topic but shh 🤫🤫
