I really enjoyed the Terrifier films. I like satisfying crime type horror where the killer gets away with it. Starve, which is free on yt, is good and underrated too. I also like psychological/paranormal/religious based horror like Annabelle, the exorcist, and so on. I'm at a loss for what horror films to enjoy right now, if anyone has personal recommendations for me I'm open!
@BULLET I used to watch Annabelle when I was 12 !! It was terrifying for me at that time. Might rewatch it again.

I'd have a difficult time choosing between slashers and sci-fi horror (specifically aliens, dinosaurs, and zombies). I used to not like giallo as a kid (I was too dumb to understand Tenebre lolol), but I grew to love and appreciate it in the past decade or so.
I searched up horror subgenres... discovered some new terms today. Though Blumhouse has their own take on it, pretty interesting.
Science fiction horror, techno-horror, psychological horror... I like these.

I love me a good body horror with strong psychological themes.. I also really love it when horror is used as a form of social commentary, so I really like movies like The Thing by John Carpenter, and Videodrome and Crash by David Cronenberg

I love splatter horror* with comedy and action beats, it's not the scariest but it's a fun balance of genres with very creative kills: early Peter Jackson, Yoshihiro Nishimura, debatably Idle Hands, shit like that (couldn't get into Evil Dead 2 though, believe it or not)
On the other hand, I like some of the unironic "ow the edge" indie Central Euro stuff from the 80s and 90s, works from folks like Jorg Buttgereit, Olaf Ittenbach, Andreas Schnaas, the one Gerald Kargl movie everyone knows (Angst)...
Some of these are also under the umbrella of SOV horror, which is usually low budget, indie and shot on a cheap camcorder (e.g., Things, Violent Shit, the utterly silly nonsense that is Chainsaw Scumfuck), I love those
Medical horror is also a big one for me, but I've yet to scratch the surface of that as far as movies and books go
*: not the same as splatterpunk, a literary genre that's super hit or miss to me
Remember,
I'm a huge fan of found footage horror myself, I've watched so many of them I've lost count! Although found footage is hit or miss aΒ lotΒ of my favorites are a part of those hits, like Noroi: The Curse and Creep. Even when I find a found footage movie that isn't entirely "good" I usually still have a lot of fun watching.
It's less of an actual genre but I also really love surreal horror, the type of movie that just operates on pure nightmare logic. I think House and A Wounded Fawn are two movies that come to mind when I think of the subgenre.Β

Body horror type of stuff, especially when it's invasive. I don't like gore for the sake of gore. But the idea that my body is no longer my own creeps tf out of me. Parasites in real life terrify me. So with that in mind I'd say
