Someone's probably made this topic already lol, but if you like physical entertainment what's your preference and do you collect them? Similarly, what kind of player do you have? What's your favorite movie/series you own?

DVD! I don't have a DVD player anymore but I use my PS4 to watch movies! As for my favourites, it's currently the first Maleficent live action movie and the original spider man trilogy.

Considering that PlayStation is ending physical games, I know (unless I'm out of the loop) they haven't said any on DVD playback, but the logical conclusion I'm assuming is they might also end DVD playback, which is super dissapointing because for so long that was one of the defining characteristics of playstation that made it so great in the first place, even if less and less people used it feature, it was always nice to have. I remember borrowing DVDs between friends and neighbors and just putting them in the Playstation. Sony really doesn't get it anymore, which is sad because they were just a staple for me in the tech world.

@furby I was so annoyed when they announced that. Physical media is used a lot for gaming, and they're just trying to kill their own fanbase at this point. I also remember lending DVDs and games with family members to save money, but I won't be able to do that anymore. :( Sony is insanely out of touch with their own community, it's actually kinda depressing.

I don't know how they'd end DVD playback on the devices that can already do it, it's built into the hardware, that'd be like if they made it to where your PS4 bricked itself when you put in a new game, which they aren't doing

That announcement was them saying they're going to stop producing new Blu-Ray discs, not retroactively make it to where it's impossible to use them on something that can already play them

I want to pick up this call.

I would say DVD would be better for me. I do have both a Blu-ray and DVD player. But since I don't exactly have a big CRT for the DVD player I usually use my blu-ray player and its alot more clear-er on my hd TV

DVDs are more accessible. Walmart is great for it.

@furby No doubt, I'd rather have the DVDs more than blu-rays

If I had a Blu-Ray player in my room, and money to spend, it would be that. But for now I mainly have a few DVDs and VHS tapes scattered around.

DVD, at least for now... if I had the space and the means to play them, it would be VHS. We have a DVD and Bluray player but I mainly just use my PS4 to play them lol

VHS because its cheap and plentiful and nostalgic for me as someone who grew up with VHS

Dvds are by far the easiest to collect, so i do.

I would like to collect more vhs though, and for certain films, vhs versions are the peak versions. the format is great for horror,
And also a lot of the time, the original aesthetics chosen when the film were ORIGINALLY edited, are only on the vhs versions,
When re released to dvd and blueray, they often go in many years after the fact and RE EDIT the visuals and colors and contrast etc etc,
and often this ruins the entire mood. It's higher fidelity yes but the look is manipulated to lose its original impact.
Like go watch an original VHS of alien.
It feels like it visually punches more with the color and ratios etc. the darks are darker and the glows glow etc.
its hard to explain,
especially as im not an editing professional so i dont know all the correct terminology, but the difference can be startling.

DVD! By far the easiest to collect and pirate. I also that it’s much more affordable than bluray (IMO, the difference in quality between the two is too minute to warrant any additional cost.) I enjoy VHS, too, but it can be rather confusing to use in comparison to DVD, and it’s not terribly portable either. I just can’t live without the ability to carry a fat binder of DVDs wherever I go, to be able to play them on a whim wherever and whenever I want. That convenience feels quite liberating in an age of paywalled streaming.

I like 'em all. Though I have nostalgia for VHS tapes as my family owned a bunch.

i loveee dvds! they are what i remember loving the most in my childhood! i think VHS tapes are cool but have not used them since my before teen years. as for blu-rays, i just never got into them because of their price (even in thrift stores). my tv has a built in dvd/cd player so haha it is just easier to stick with dvds!

and as for my favourite movie/series that i own, it 100% would be the entire x files series👽

I want to believe

i've had all three but i think bluray was my favorite overall. more of just a vibe thing

Dvd is good for pirating but vhs just got that retro feeling.

I prefer DVD for tv shows and older films but some films like project hail mary i prefer to have on blu-ray for the extra quality and bonus features

DVD is still the winner because most of them are packed with features, Blu Ray and 4k look better but they skimp on some stuff at times.

honestly I struggle to notice the difference quality wise but I do like that DVDs tend to have extra stuff

im a dvdhead forever. i have been basically my whole life and still use it to this day
