Not a personal fan, I browse it sometimes but it's just so damn toxic. So give me your experience, posts comments drama etc.

@RainieRAWR I could put TikTok on the same level as "X" (Formerly "Twitter".) when it comes to the level of Toxicity.
And I definitely don't wanna go on these websites again.
It's pretty toxic and chaotic there and I've seen several cases of messed up stuff happening there.
So yeah, it's not worth it and if I were you just delete your account there and uninstall the app on whatever device you had it on.
Even before I installed it, I've been hearing stuff about how badly toxic and cringe it was there.... And I see why.
I only installed it and created an account there just because my young sister for whatever reason likes using TikTok bugs me to create an account and follow her profile which I did.
But then I just looked around there for a bit then i uninstalled the app afterwards because I'm not really interested on it.
I don't comment on tik tok that much for my own sanity's sake, and my feed has been pretty carefully curated so that I don't get much bullshit anymore. I try my best not to scroll too much
the algorithm when i first made an account was just tryna pull me in blatant conservative pipelines so I never bothered "training" my algo and dipped, i hate short form anyway

@JacobTheKewlDude did it work

@Lulu's Mauling always 🥹
it is bullshit. okay that is kinda a harsh way to put it... but, it negatively affected me(more heavily than any other individual social media platform) when i was a young teenager. i mean all social media can/tends to do that but tiktok just seems to be extraordinarily good at it. Lots of people living in their own imaginary bubbles and being reeallly black and white about things, nothing is black and white, there are always more sides to things. a great breeding ground for chronic onlineness, alienation from other ppl, body image issues etc. BUT ofcourse there are neutral/good things too! (like i said, nothing is black and white) a great place to find content about ur interests, a creative outlet for many ppl, funky posts. But my personal experience heavily leans to the negative side.
@lunch Very good point about the black-and-white thinking... it's nearly impossible to have an honest discussion about anything on that app. People always immediately jump to extremes and strawmen. It's a community full of tiny atomized echo chambers that will cast you out and have people harassing you if you dare to have one opinion that doesn't align with the group consensus.
It's about as enriching and good for your brain as heroin. I used to be completely addicted, I spent literally no less than 5 hours a day on that app every single day. I kept trying to quit and doing well for about 3 days before reinstalling it and ending up right where I was before. It completely decimated my attention span, memory, and focus in ways that I'm still trying (and struggling) to recover from.
Aside from it being clinically proven to be terrible for you brain, it just isn't fun. It's all ragebait or "content" with zero intellectual or enjoyment value, and it's like that by design to get you to get angry and respond to these bad faith takes or to make you keep scrolling more so you can find the few videos on the app that you'll actually like.
Short-form content is a psy-op to make everyone stupid, miserable, and unable to do anything.
@XxZ0mb1exX that lowk happened to me w snapchat spotlight
i only go on there for the edits and update myself on what’s going on around the world and try to help as much as i can. other than that the app does not exist to me.

(semi-rant incoming, didn't realize i wrote so much)
i've been on tiktok since 2019. it wasn't as addicting back then i'd say. i could be wrong, but i didn't use it that much in it's earlier years. i started getting into the habit of doom scrolling around the beginning of high school. finished all my work? scroll on tiktok. nothing to do at lunch since i have no friends to talk to? scroll on tiktok. well, i cant do that anymore since they banned phones, so once i got to my bus i'd immediately start doom scrolling again until i got home. so yeah, it's addicting since all you have to do is scroll and your brain melts into mush.
besides the addictive part, it's just honestly toxic. i don't remember it being too toxic before 2020, there was probably some toxicity lurking, but it wasn't in your face like it is now. once 2020 hit, the app only went downhill. there was a significant increase in racism and overall bigotry. it's absolutely horrible now. comment sections under ANY video get my blood boiling. it's not even just racists and bigots that boil my blood, it's the miserable people who have to hate on EVERYTHING (being miserable usually goes hand in hand with being a bigot, so no wonder they hate everything). if you even SHOW an inch of happiness or positivity, you will be instantly shot down by some loser. i could go on and on about the toxicity on that app, but i'll spare everyone reading my reply.
other than all that BS, i only kinda like tiktok because there are some amazing edits and artwork from fandoms i am in. that's really the only joy i get out of the app. but even then, i am still better without it. i like to stay off my phone and use my computer instead, since things run at a slower pace and it's more relaxing (i mean, why do you think i am here now lol). i am also more productive creatively on my computer. in my whole honest opinion, it's not even just tiktok that's a problem, it's also twitter, instagram, and whatever the hell else there is. i'm sure you all know that though.

i have an account and i post animations and i also like seeing memes or anything that piques my interest lol
i barely comment too
everyone and i mean everyone!!! is miserable!!!! i first started using it in 2022 and it was pretty enjoyable but i swear everybody recently cant be happy and tries to bring everyone down. i saw a vid of some girl washing dye out of her hair outside near her lawn and everyone was talking about how shes hurting the environment by getting the dye on the grass or something. idk i just wish ppl could be happier on there
i've had it since 2019, but i've uninstalled it for a few months now and then and I heavily limit my time on there. the algorithm works sooo fast in order to keep ya hooked! i used to do cosplay on that app, and now i'm on it for like lifestyle tips and aesthetic stuff. There is so much amazing artwork of all kinds on there (edits, music, animations, videos of physical artwork, etc.).I've seen tiktok be super harmful for other people bc it's easy to get a feed full of complete brainrot, but again I know how to handle my algorithm. mostly. when i was younger and relied on tiktok for, like, learning how to live my life, there was a lot of misleading stuff that made me miserable; however, i have learned a lot of beneficial things on the app too.
I saw a tiktok video 4-5 years ago that inspired me to pursue the major I now have a degree in, and I unironically credit tt for that!
I preferred musical.ly tbh i only go on tiktok every now and then to post my art :/

I don't use tiktok, but it always finds it's way into everything else, so eventually I see a bunch of crap from tiktok. I'm mostly a youtube shorts guy, which isn't that much better.
