Do u guys try 2 live like its the 2000s?

I’m very big into the 2000s (obvi) like the style, music, and just everything abt it!! But does anyone else try to REALLY live like it’s that time, like using the slang, listening to mainly 2000s music and watching mainly 2000s movies & shows? I also try to collect a lot of physical media and I try to stay off of newer social medias and I only really use YouTube, friendrewind, spacehey, and tumblr bc it rlly makes me feel more like I’m in the 2000s. Basically what I’m trying to say is does anyone else do this, and if so do you have any other recs to make it feel more like the 2000s?

Maybe in some ways. A few of my electronic devices are older (like the TVs in my bedroom and office) and I only have one subscription service (music). I also recently uninstalled most of the social media apps from my phone which has done wonders for my mental health. I can't see myself getting rid of my smartphone entirely though since it's so much easier to handle finances, email, etc with it than it would be with an ancient flip phone. The first cell phone I had over 20 years ago had T9 texting and that was a huge PITA.

Not really any more than I was in the actual 2000s? I swore off all broadcast TV in the mid-00s because the reality TV was stupid af, & have stuck with only things that are by creators I like, concepts I like, or things that are specifically recommended by friends. (So I have watched modern shows/movies on DVD or stream, but not the typical lineup of what's fed to me via commercials or timeslots.) I've always hated "mainstream" social media even when it was just Myspace & FB back in the day. I didn't bother with a smartphone until there was no other option. I'm not into the big popular games usually, with very few exceptions. Currently I loathe AI & "smart" devices, I don't need my fridge to connect to the internet, it just needs to shut up & be cold.

This is more about me being perpetually in the mindset of an elderly person than the cultural value of such things, but it is what it is & I won't apologize for myself. I like what I like & I'm not going to do things I don't want to do just because it's trendy.

A little? This is my main social media and I think I dress kind of 2000s even if I dress pretty simple, love my cds but im not really trying to bc its "2000s older brother core" or something.

Pretty much the only game I play is doom 3 and I dont really watch newer short form content anymore, idk am I 2000s

Replying to @xXtypehoesnegativeXx (post is on page 1): “Im trying to live in the 90s, obvs cant get rid of my phone but i’m tryna dress more like if ? and also get more physical media (Cds instead of spotify, Bo...”

@xXtypehoesnegativeXx I feel like the '90s is a much easier time to disappear into and imitate in the modern world, because so much of what makes/made that era what it was was being offline and based in the real, physical/tangible and material things that stay constant (CDs, magazines, tapes, etc).

Whereas, I feel the authentic '00s was so digital and internet-centric that it can never be fully replicated because of what the internet has become today. All the old webpages, message boards, heck, just the experience of browsing the internet as an AI-free thing, with a certain degree of anonymity and no question on if what/who you're interacting with is human or not. The entire concept of the internet being a place you escape to, instead of a place to escape from are never coming back.

While it's nice to have this wave of new nostalgia-charged alternatives popping up like SpaceHey/FriendRewind, NeoCities and KamTape (and relieving it is to see that the largest amount of engagement with said platforms are from youth who even weren't born to experience what is being replicated) that attempt to bring back the honest character and personality of the "old web" -- unfortunately, I'm afraid the best these platforms can be is a niche form of imitation rather than proper revivals that fill the void left behind/nor proper rivals to the dominant commercial entities that dominate our lives and personal data.

Not really, but I try to limit myself to youtube and friendrewind because i find that other social medias take up too much of my time. Theyre also muchhhh more toxic and mentally its draining keeping up with so many trends/memes... I also play on my 3DS and collect physical media for my walkman, but im aware its not from the 2000s at all.

Maybe i should start to act like it is lol... I like the aesthetic and it seems fun.

fuck is the weirddo above me sying

I like to take a hybrid approach! If there is something from the 2000s that I believe was done better than today, I implement it in my life. For example, I intentionally do not have a browser on my phone because I will get sucked into surfing the web and scrolling. Anything that is on my phone has a function, which makes it closer to phones that were used as tools in the 2000s. Some people think that I am crazy for barely having anything on my phone, but it keeps me off of it and gives me peace. I also have a CD collection and use an iPod mini instead of Spotify, and I do not use much social media, which is what gravitated me to this site! However, I do not ban myself from modern stuff. I have accounts on both Pinterest and rednote, and if we use my CD collection as an example, I have CDs from the 2000s and 2020s sitting in harmony on my shelf. The idea of collecting CDs may be more 2000s leaning, but I allow myself to listen to all music from any decade! I think that instead of only consuming stuff from the past, it is important to enjoy the good things from the present as well and find a good happy medium between the two :)

@lulu.mp3 uninstalling the web browser on your phone was a good idea. I'm honestly contemplating it my own self.

Yes I definitely try to keep a 2000s lifestyle online and in person, although with my personal preferences like my favorite color light blue is used for decorating my room. (Recently I decorated my wii u gamepad to match my room!) It also helps that I hate online subscriptions and I try to avoid them as much as I can by streaming media online and using my single purpose tech like ipod and handheld consoles. I unfortunately use tiktok but other than that I use mainly youtube, spacehey, and this platform. When it comes to the 2000s, I try to think of what past me would do in that era so I could not rely on the current tech and media.
