What do y’all think about people who choose to be celibate for the rest of their lives?

I’ve been alone my whole life and plan to forever but have people pressuring me to be with someone for their own sake

What are your thoughts?

its fine honestly

i see it the same way as having kids, its your own choice, not anyone elses

@CJ

yea I've been trying to tell people that, especially ppl over the age of 50!

almost like everyone I know are so worried about ppl not having kids or having any relationships and are constantly praying that I get married when i have no interest in it LOL.

I mostly see it as a choice as well

It's none of my business tbh. What someone chooses to do with their life is not something I need to voice my opinion on. If its not hurting anyone then I don't really see any reason to care about it yk?

You do you. I don't want kids (much to the disappointment of my mother) and that's no one's business but mine, just like this is no one's business but yours :)

@Sol

Thanks! I think the same way as well, I just really wanted to know other ppls opinions are about the topic since sometimes I think I'm a bit coo coo if I don't feel the need to have a partner or kids to fulfill my life.

honestly, i dont think I will change my mind no matter someones opinion!

I think the worst thing you could do is care what other people think. That applies to many things in life, but especially with the topic of partnership or pressuring people to get married and have kids... Just ignore the weirdos. I grew up religious and many things were supposed to condition girls into wanting to get married and have kids young, but I never really desired that. Some people's biggest dream in life is to be with someone, but if you know you never cared for it, then don't rush or force yourself. I do currently have my first boyfriend, and I only chose to date him because we were good friends, we share the same views on many things, and I was pretty honest with him (I could tell he liked me too, so it worked out). But for me, life hasn't changed much, and I certainly don't want my goals to be set aside or center my life around my partner.

In short, you do you. Don't listen to people you don't even respect or who don't know you.

@isa_nity_550

It seems like most have this perspective on this issue, honestly seems like a refresher since I’m surrounded by relation ship/baby obsessed people all day everyday irl!!

I’m really glad you had the same perspective and still have it while with your boyfriend, I think it shows that even if you love someone it might now change any aspect of your life or outlook.

i don't see anything wrong with it. not everyone wants the same things out of life and a relationship isn't automatically something everyone needs or wants. some people are happiest in relationships, some are happiest on their own and both are valid. it feels like it should be respected either way.

Well for one thats none of their damn business and you shouldnt be made to date someone just for their benefit. As for being celebate for life thats definitely up to you for sure. some people also just have low libido and low social requirement. It happens.
But even if that were to change thats no one elses business but yours ultimately. if they trying to push it on you then they are ruining it to begin with, if it were to work at all you would already be infatuated with them.

@KILLGAZMOTRON

Exactly!! I can tell the idea of relationships being ruined for me and other people I’ve talked to purely because someone pushed the idea.

In this day and age I don’t really see why I would have to be with someone and selfishly I don’t see why I would be in a relationship because I wouldn’t be benefited at all!

It is none of their damn business!

FML, why is everyone so hypersensitive about what genitals and reproductive organs other folks do or don't have and what they're doing or plan to do with them???

We're just not that far removed from our primate ancestors 🙄

@Cranky Old Witch

OMG EXACTLY!!! You worded it so well that I can’t even think of a different thought LOL

If they have good genetics and or would be good with kids it's pretty sad to see and I would encourage them to try to form a stable loving relationship for the betterment of humanity and society.

Otherwise ye haw! Less people!

@X

Within genetics, if the person has a health issue they know of and can pass to the said child which can cause the child pain and suffering during their life then yes I would honestly refrain from having kids, although not a relationship.

In my case, I dont have good genetics due to health issues as well as family health history :) but i don't hate children either!!!

In my case again, I want to be alone for the rest of my life for the sake of my peace but also I don't think I would be mentally sound to be in a intimate relationship nor have children, this is why I created this forum since I've been dealing with the pressure of expectations to find a partner and have children that I clearly don't want LOL, honestly I think people have a choice.

but also YIIPEEEE less people :D

@bunnibun7 Yeah you should never succumb to the pressure from those around you to have kids. You need to only have kids for YOU, not them. If they want kids, they could/should go have more then. From what you have told me so far, I stand by your decision to not have kids. I also agree with staying out of relationships if you think you can't mentally handle it.

people tend to have a prescriptive view on what makes life meaningful. don't let them to define your life for you. if you feel like that's best for you, then that's enough of a justification 𑣲⋆

@nyxliketrix

That’s a great way to put it, thanks!!

Nothing wrong with celibacy at all. People throughout all human history have achieved great things by staying single and celibate.

I’m assuming that people who pressure others into their own lifestyle are deeply insecure and desire to have their outer world conform and reflect their inner world.

You do you! We have much more pressing matters to worry about haha

@Hazel

I even thought about that as well, I also find it funny how people expect that out of the outer world when literally anything can happen that is against a persons inner world/beliefs. Life does not guarantee you anything so why pressure people into doing things they don't want to do?

but yea I'm much more worried about my groceries getting higher than reproducing.

People just can’t seem to be normal about asexuals or people who just want to stay celibate… Like it’s none of their business! Leave us alone!
