What's it like to look up at the stars?

I've never been able to see the stars at night thanks to light pollution and being in a city for my entire life, but to anyone who's seen them, what do stars look like? I know this is quite a stupid question to ask, but I'm kinda curious.

It's kinda ironic that I've never seen stars with my own eyes despite loving anything star shaped.
