what do you fall asleep to?

Back to General Discussion

White noise? A fan? Music? What genre? Videos?

I used to be an ASMR person. Then I'd watch league of legends games. Then I watched Binding of Isaac gameplay, now I watch Northernlion! I go back to ASMR if I'm having a particularly hard night, but I find the banter from games quiets my thoughts in way idle sounds don't

But that's enough about me, what about you?

two things awe me most: the starry sky above me, and the moral law within me"

Mostly radio chatter or EMDR and 8D or binaural music. White noise alone doesn't really cut it for me unless it's got variation instead of consistency, like watching a calming and natural walk around tour of the forest on Nomadic Ambience's YouTube channel. I like listening to chatter to fall asleep to in general, old TV and sports announcers do the trick as well. Ephemeral rift (asmrtist on yt) has some relaxing radio chatter type videos posted there which I return to for years now. I like listening to police sirens and train sounds because it reminds me of Chicago, too. I like listening to positive affirmations before bed as well if I feel like it. Guys like The Functional Melancholic (a YouTuber) have a way of eloquently explaining things so on point about a certain topic that piques my interest, to the point it makes me relax so much I fall asleep. His video titled, "Romanticizing the Apocalypse: Why We Secretly Hope the World Ends" is my all time favorite. Here's a link: https://youtu.be/GHAzpIitZ8Y?si=i54VSAYrd2SWNaS8

(I'll edit and upload more links later of the exact videos I use)

For me, I have to have a fan, hands down. Without it, I can't sleep lol

Harley Quinn

I need a fan, for sure. If it's too quiet, all the tiny house/spouse noises will keep me up. The fan is just enough noise

I need sound whenever I fall asleep. So for me I listen to a lot of video essays, deep dives, tier lists and lore videos to fall asleep too. There is a huuuge selection on YouTube just gotta watch out for the AI videos :(

The hum of our general heating system or, back when I slept with the window open, the hum of the cars on the nearby highway combined with fake scenarios I come up with (the past couple of nights it has been a conversation with some characters from my favorite shows and movies)

A playlist of rifftrax movies or mst3k.

Or horror ambience.

spooky sounds n shit bro.

It really depends on my mood. It varies between lets plays, WoW lore, rain/storm sounds, random video game music, gaming retrospectives.

Complete silence. Not including the air purifier which is pretty much white noise Life is so noisy so I like enjoying every second of silence I can get, especially since it's the only time I get to focus.

"Why do hot dogs come in packages of 10, while hot dog buns come in packages of 8?"

I've been listening to these Sherlock Holmes stories on the way to sleep.

It used to be nothing. Now it’s Sleep Token. Regular or slowed+reverb versions on YouTube :)
