Man... I've been looking for some actually good mobile games for a while now, but it feels like every game that's even remotely fun is either a PC game emulator or paid.
I'm not really interested in risking getting a virus, so can anyone recommend some good mobile games to play? Preferably free ones?

Can't relate, I had a sponsor paying for my hourglasses just so I would play the game so midnight chatrooms were never an issue lol
not sure what kind of games you like but there is this rhythm game called Deemo that got released during the early 2010's. The music got me through some tough times and if you are looking for a game with a lot of piano playing and a warm story, then it might just be for you.

Oh, and Doki Doki Literature Club is on mobile now, but that is a PC port. It's free though!
A friend recommended me Hatch Dragons, and I really like it, it's quick and easy to check every so often.. Hello Kitty Dream Village is another, that one's a bit grindy and pay to win (but "winning" is gacha pulls for cute outfits and furniture, so you can play for free easily)
two things awe me most: the starry sky above me, and the moral law within me" I recommend Sky COTL and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp (Sky is free but you have to buy the Pocket Camp app), also a super simple little game app I still like playing when I'm bored is Jelly Jump :3
@Helly Stiletto I second Good Pizza Great Pizza! I played it on my phone and loved it so much I bought it on Steam. 10/10 great game. I can only imagine Good Coffee Great Coffee is just as if not more amazing!

Nameless Cat, Cats are Liquid duology, Bricky Boy, Chiki's Chase and tomb of the mask are all really good games!

It's more of a gacha game/PC turned mobile but I can't get enough of Persona5X(P5x).

I'm kinda a cosy gamer, so these may not be ur style :'P If you got an iphone (and preferably have Apple Arcade so it is free) there are so many cool games I've tried! Monument Valley is objectively one of my most fav mobile game series. its like an optical illusion puzzle thing and each part has a different story line. its super relaxing & even tho each individual game is pretty short, u can always come back to it and replay levels and its still a challenge.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is also one of my current favs. its like animal crossing on your phone but 50x better imo (sadly its not free tho).
sky children of the light is free and its multiplayer! best part is u can play on different devices, so if u play on phone u can also continue it on your computer or even on nintendo.
geometry dash is another game ive been obsessed with a little too much. the lite version is free and its kinda all i need. its more challenging on mobile, but its fun :-) u cant make levels, but i like doing all the daily and weekly levels.
If you have an android device, then you can still find apk files for old and discontinued games which aren't pay to win or full of micro transactions. I've been having a lot of fun with sonic at the tokyo olympic games, og angry birds, where's my water and others which I got like this. Good sites to get unmodded APKs from are apkmirror and apkpure (u'll need to get antisplit m too if you get anything from apk pure though because they only let u download apps from their site in xapk packages to install with their bloated ass app, antisplit merges those into normal apks so u can install them manually). If you do want to just get things from the playstore though, the cooking mama mobile por is really fun.
You can also get emulators for other platforms in your phone (especially if you do have an android. There are emulators for ios too but idk a lot abt it). My phone isn't very powerful so I only use it to emulate gameboy and ds games, but with a good android phone you can even emulate switch 2 games, so that's def worth checking out too :)
i had tsuki oddesy downloaded for a couple years. u might find this one kinda lame bc u finish most tasks the game gives u in like 40seconds, u can walk around and do whatever later tho. its also offilne and free

If you like games with cat collection and being able to leave it on in the background and occasionally go check on it Nekoastume is good (and free).
If you like card games and roguelikes Balatro is a good (but not free like maybe 10$). I have it on the PC but it started off as a mobile game.
If you like match games then Pokemon Cafe remix is good (and free) or watermelon merge game (and free).
