after my last forum topic i got curious about the opposite question
i'd say i'd start but from the top of my head i can't really think of a movie that would fit in that box.

love is a bit of a stretch, but i think a lot of uwe boll's work is pretty good
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, the first one was better, but I still love this one!
Waterworld. gets way too much hate.

@⸸⸸⸸𝕶𝖎𝖑𝖑𝖌𝖆𝐳𝖒𝖔𝖙𝖗𝖔𝖓⸸⸸⸸ truth! It's supposed to be mind candy.
It's supposed to be Tye Road Warrior, but on the ocean rather than in the dessert
@Cranky Old Witch
EXACTLY!! the sets are beautiful, the actions fun. the concept is unique, it has fucking dennis hopper.
its fun! lol.

Popeye with Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall! It is a fun film, the music is good, the execution of the plot is a bit of a mess, but the casting is spot on, and I think it captures the essence of the old cartoon shorts pretty well!
This movie lives in my brain forever, if only because of VAN DYKE PARKS arranger credit and brief cameo...
I should probably rewatch it with friends sometime soon . . .

Avatar I guess? though I'm half convinced the 'love' for Avatar was a lie bc I have not met a single person who gives a fuck about that movie despite it being one of the best performing movies of all time
@BootlegFriend shit wait my dyslexic ass misread the title LOL I don't love Avatar I strongly dislike it. I remember the movie A Cure For Wellness getting a lot of shit on release for being weird and incoherent, I loved it! (though I haven't watched it in awhile)
The 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie is OBVIOUSLY the superior film!!! It's soooo good.

I love that movie!
@Genxennial my sister from another mister! 🥰
Gummo. It's disgusting and terrible to many people, but the reason why I love it is because I appreciated that the horror I felt from watching it, was a horror at how similar those peoples lives were to my own youth experience (lower middle class/lower class, kitchen gatherings where dad and his buddies are so drunk they beat up a table...). You're watching these people with disgust, and then have the inward reflection of disgust at your own life. That if the movie was made about your own experience, the audience would have the same revulsion. It confronted me.
@Kommando Mutiliid
Gummo is a window into a reality of a time and place and yeah some people are so seperated from it they have no clue what the real world can be sometimes.
Its like how i feel when people say for example, rob zombies characters are absurd characatures that swear too much and sometimes i even hear they are derogitory stereotypes of the poor and im like
"well fucking clearly you did not fucking grow up around poor white buttfuck nowhere drug addicts mister suburban fuckin princess"

Precisely. Spot on about Rob Zombies characters too, also oddly familiar! I have tried to explain this phenomenon to people and they just don't seem to understand it at all -- or don't want to acknowledge that I grew up like "one of those people". Glad you know exactly what I'm talking about here!
@Kommando Mutiliid Soooo... where can I watch this movie??
@Fabian Dee
I will die on this hill lol. shit its better than 90% by far of everything that came out in theaters in the last 15 years.

I dunno if people actually hate it or are just memeimg, but Sharkboy And Lavagirl is one of my top comfort picks no matter how much it gets clowned on. It's silly, and it was a product of its time :]

Godzilla (1997), I think that if it had a different name it wouldn't get as much hate as it does. It's an alright sci-fi movie.
Masters of The Universe (1987), it seems people were pissed it took place in present day earth as opposed to Eternia. I didn't think it was that bad. He-Man isn't exactly easy to adapt to live action, specially back in the 80s.
Downsizing, this one seems to get a lot of hate based on the trailers that promised a sci-fi comedy and instead got a very somber film that was borderline depressing. It's alright if you see it without any expectations.
microwave massacre (1979)
