whatever the 'early internet days' mean to you, what is something you found / discovered that shaped you into who you are today? for example, creepypasta and the creepypasta community was a big part of my childhood and definitely helped develop the person i am today!

Replying to @Gengar (post is on page 1): “Back in the late 90s, early 00s, I used to be in a (very small) publicly accessible Java-based webchat with a whole bunch of people for like... about a decad...”

@Gengar thats so cool!! do you wish you stayed in touch? that sounds like such a cool experience to have

@youaredoomed With some of them, yeah, but life happens. It was pretty cool back in the day. It's been 20+ years though. I do still sometimes be like "Oh I bet so&so would really like this song, wish I could send it to them" or "I wonder if that other person ever got the tattoo we talked about, it would be funny if we accidentally match now".

Replying to @Corpse-princess2.0 (post is on page 1): “Creepypasta and watching my mom on yo ville (?) and my space :3”

@Corpse-princess2.0 love all the creepypasta replies :D

Replying to @ᯓ★ sav || sawblade ✧˖°. (post is on page 1): “im not unc like everyone else (/j) but old youtube videos and archives of old sites.”

@savvluvsllamas__ old youtube was the best C:

these videos from early youtube

@wizard go kitty go and caramelldansen are still videos i go back and rewatch today :3

Go girls games, movie star planet, moshi monsters, star sue, any dress up game

@LittleDeer i remember moshi monsters omg!!

@youaredoomed

I grew up completely detached from the internet because I never got any access to it until I was 13, so I never knew what was going on on the internet, so I can't really answer this properly. But something I know would have shaped me if I had access to the internet earlier and I was maybe born a little earlier (which is shaping me now lol) is the early era of Dan and Phil.

Those weirdly gorey MLP animations and creepypasta

“Hold onto your dreams kid, the future is built on dreams.”— Optimus Prime

I think I speak for almost every alt teen when I say being exposed to creepypasta stuff, (especially stylized animations) because now I basically look like Jeff without the scars and I still have eyelids :)

I grew up watching YouTube videos that were mostly amateurish, homemade skits or songs. Usually just someone with a camera and some friends fooling around, sometimes with plushies or whatever else. For the songs I'd watched, it would usually just be a screen recording of whatever program they were using, with still horrible audio quality lol

I've managed to actually come across some of the people I remember watching in more recent times, and a good amount of them I could credit as another inspiration for my own stuff... Although some of the really good stuff I remember is lost to time by now most likely

Ya'll remember Habbo Hotel? That site shaped me lmao. I would spend my summer vacations in the 2000s playing it. Hashtag*Bobba*

Club Penguin. When I was homeschooled for a small while, there was no greater feeling than finishing homework and logging on to Club Penguin. Also Friv (iykyk)

A lot of what shaped me were things like the o0ld flash games on cartoon network and lego.com. I also got super into newgrounds and posted a lot of gamefaqs too. I think my most significant community I really felt a part of was a site called youthink, which was sort of an aggregate forums/quiz site with profiles and i got to know a lot of cool people on there. i usually wonder how those folks are doing, but this was around 2006-2008.

@sarahtonin i wish i could've been around for that :(  that sounds so cool!

Replying to @youaredoomed (post is on page 1): “@ptolemy i used to love kongregate so much dude they need to revive that place somehow. ”

@youaredoomed the old kongregate especially. you could chat with people while playing games, but they got rid of this and the forum :(

@ptolemy one of the best early internet experiences!!
