I've been hearing about a lotta folks that gatekeep certain music artists to "Keep them Niche" but personally I don't think it's a good thing to do, since a lot of music artists work hard to create the songs we know and love. What are y'all's thoughts on this?

@SavageReaper666 Personally I really despise calling someone a larper, I think it just became a buzzword that is never used correctly. However I know exactly what you were trying to say and I understand your argument. I may not agree with it but I can understand why someone would gatekeep from folks who wouldn't even consume the media properly

I know that the word "larpers" can be a buzzword and people dont know how to use it correctly because let say that their not so smart. Ive seen too many poseurs (if I really want to be harsh and honest lol) from counter culture to gaming to guitar forum to goth (you can thank TikTok for that) to the point that you gonna have to need gatekeeping. otherwise, it would be a mess to clean up!

Admittedly I think a lot of my disagreement comes from the fact that I personally don't think it's THAT serious, now yes I can understand how posing and being a fake fan can be annoying but at the end of the day I don't personally see it as something to be extremely upset about.

However I do enjoy how unfiltered your opinion is, it's nice seeing folks unafraid to show their opinions and thoughts on certain topics 🤝

My opinion is that music should not be gatekept. Gatekeeping music is not only unnecessary but actively brings down the artist that is being gatekept. Subcultures though, those should be gatekept to an extent. If someone is willing to research the history, uphold the subcultures values, and listen to the music, they shouldn't be gatekept, but someone who is only interested in the subculture for the "aesthetic" or "style" and just wants to seem cool they should be gatekept.

its a doubled edged sword, i mean in some cases there needs to be "gatekeeping" so a specific scene keeps their roots, but on the other hand, It can mean harm to the artists, since the reason they make music is for others to enjoy, I dont really see point in gatekeeping i will always share but i can see why some people choose to "gatekeep"

Very much necessary.

i do the opposite of gatekeeping, i annoy people with music i found/like

if i was a struggling musician trying to live using my art and my bitchass fans keep gatekeeping me i would be really pissed
