Gaiaonline and HabboHotel were more like create an avatar and chat to people. Gaiaonline had forums and a marketplace and some lore behind it. There were NPC characters and quests. You could even play games on it similar to Neopets. Habbo on the other hand was mostly just a chat room with "night clubs" and rooms in the apartments. I remember it being very cliquey, and I had a hard time making friends on it. I had only like 2 or 3 people I talked to daily on it.
Piczo on the other hand was a website creator, very similar to neocities. But it gave you templates for everything, and there were certain pages you need to have like a "home page" and a "guest book." I honestly used to use it for my original characters like their bios and stuff. A lot of the girls in middle school used to use it was a blogging site. It's no longer around anymore though !! :(

There was this one flash game website I played Super Smash Flash 1 on. It had a beige background with navy blue links on it. When I scrolled down it had the Super Smash Brothers Melee walpaper under the game.
Oh and Poptropica was a BLAST back then too. EVERYBODY loved it.

@Red, White and Real rn it's a game that you have to install in order to play, but back then you could only play it as a site! it created a rlly big community that (kinda sorta) survives to this day ^^
i used to play a lot of dress games on sites like girlsgogames games2girls, also loved shit like habbo hotel and club penguin
