i’m slowly building my collection: i got a small pile of CDs and even burned a few (on mobile but can link the youtube converter i use for it later if anyone wants to start burning CDs again), and got some DVDs too. i’m looking into getting a dvd player (still unsure if i should just do portable or one for my tv) so i can actually use them too since laptops nowadays dont wanna come with a slot for dvds / cds!!!
i remember when tvs just came with a dvd player, those were the day
yesss i have so many books. and i'm trying to develop a cd collection by going to thrift stores and garages sales n stuff. Yesterday i found a Lorde album on CD in a thrift store (or so i thought!) but the cd wasn't in the caseeee it was so devastating!
i have a FUCK TON of old cds from the 2000s that ive been collecting from relatives like my life depends on it, also have an og playstation w games like final fantasy 7 :D
It's really heartening to see so many people interested in physical media rn, especially with Sony just announcing that they're going full digital in 2028. No more physical copies, no more specialty steel book editions, and still full price! O_o
I recently started collecting cassette tapes and VHS. It feels so rewarding to get a good find at a thrift store. You can get them much cheaper at the thrift or antique stores than online. Recently bought 10 cassettes for $1 at a yard sale, and my local thrift has 5 VHS for $1. There's something so satisfying about the sound of the cassette clicking in, and the feel of it when you are holding it.
I'm so sick of instant gratification and touch screens. I feel like the touch screen messes with our brains. Our brains aren't made for all this technology. Biologically, I feel like we haven't evolved to really understand that or feel it properly. The feeling of actually pressing a physical button after so many years of touchscreen somehow makes me giddy lol.
@xXMissParamourXx the kchunkwhhhiiiIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRR of a tape rewinding is so nice. And, if you stop it, you don't have to find your place again. It's just right there!
to echo what erah mar said, sony just announced the end of physical copies coming in 2028, and they ALSO just announced that their licensing agreement with studio canal is expiring september 1st. 551 movies are being completely removed from peoples libraries, meaning everything they "purchased" digitally from them will no longer be available to be accessed. digital purchases are just glorified rentals, so please!! keep buying physical!

@Linkie that's what I keep telling my partner, that they can take away whatever they want for whatever reason, or alter/edit/adjust their digital products if they want to, and you can't do anything about it. =/
I run a little record club in my community where we meet up and blind swap vinyl records. We all meet up at our local record shop and conceal our offerings and say a brief description of what kind of music is on it.
"This is an indie-pop record put out on Phoebe Bridgers' record label."
"Oh! I'll take that!"
"Jeff, I think you'll like this one. It's from an artist that you listened to a couple months ago."
That kind of thing.
@tellmesecrets that sounds so FUN!
